MVP isnt holding back when it comes to the early days of his WWE runand the moment he realized scripted promos werent going to cut it.
On a recent episode of the F Yall Podcast with CT Fletcher, the current AEW star took a trip down memory lane, recounting a cringeworthy moment during a WWE contract-signing segment early in his career. The issue? A tone-deaf script that clearly wasnt written with himor anyone from the real worldin mind.
I remember when I first started. We did a press conference where MVP was signing his contract. They gave me my script, and I read the lines. This was the actual verbiage in the script, Check out these fine threads I be wearing. I went to Dusty and showed it to him. What the f** is this?* Dusty looked at it and goes, Damn, baby. Thats awful. I dont know who wrote that s**, but go do what you do.*
And MVP did just thattossed the script and did things his way. Turns out, the writer behind the disastrous line wasnt even at the shoot. I went and asked, Who wrote this sht? It was somebody in Connecticut; he wasnt even there, MVP added. I figured out early on that they cant write for me. You can give me what you want, give me an overview, and let me go out there and do it. Dont ever again hand me some sht like that.
That moment proved to be a turning point for MVP, who would go on to become one of the most charismatic talkers in the businesswithout anyone writing his words for him.
Now signed to AEW, MVP is running the Hurt Syndicate alongside Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin, with the duo currently reigning as AEW Tag Team Champions. Cedric Alexander, who was part of the original Hurt Business in WWE, has also teased finishing the story with them in AEW.
