SRAM still investigating 'cybersecurity issue'

Published April 1, 2025

CHICAGO (BRAIN) SRAM said it has hired outside specialists to investigate an IT systems outage that caused the company to shut down its wholesale ordering system and other systems last month.

A company spokesman declined to say whether it had been hacked or its systems held ransom. He said the company shut down affected areas and closed access to most of its IT systems as a precaution. SRAM told customers on March 27 that its systems had been restored.

Michael Zellmann, SRAM's Global Road and Corporate Communication Manager, said the incident had no affect on SRAM's AXS system, which allows riders to customize and gather information from wireless drivetrains and other parts. But it did affect dealer ordering and the RockShox Trailhead suspension app, which have both returned to normal operations now, he said. He said the outside expertswillassist in restoring secure access to SRAM networks.

Several industry brands have suffered cyber hacks over the years, including distributor KHS, whose systems went down for about two weeks in 2020. KHS said a Russian group was behind that outage. Canyon and Garmin were both attacked that year as well, and JBI suffered a ransomware attack in 2021.
