Wrestling fans in London thought they were about to smell what The Rock was cookingbut it turns out the whole thing was smoke and no fire.
Ahead of Mondays episode of WWE RAW at the O2 Arena, rumors spread like wildfire online that The Rock had been spotted in London. Social media lit up with speculation that he might make a surprise appearanceespecially given how WrestleMania season is heating up and John Cena was already confirmed for the show. But in the end? It was all cap.
On April 1, Fightful Select shut those rumors down cold, reporting, Weve heard nothing of The Rock being in London, and have no idea what those rumors were about.
Its worth noting that The Rock himself had already issued a statement from Hawaii earlier in the weekend, apologizing to fans after a plane issue prevented him from making it to the UFL Season 2 kickoff in Texas. In that message, he told fans, Im here back home in Hawaii, and I was scheduled right now to be in Houston, Texas Im so sorry I cant be there with you guys. So the idea that he couldve quietly jetted off to the UK just hours later? Yeah, probably not.
Still, that didnt stop hopeful fans from getting their hopes up. The internet being what it is, all it took was one grainy Rock spotted in London post to stir the pot and get people bracing for a possible heel reunion or run-in with John Cena.
Spoiler: it didnt happen. Meanwhile, Cena and Cody Rhodes burned the house down in a brutal promo battle that had everything from Stardust references to piece of sht* chants and a Crossroads finisher to close the segment. But no Rock.
So, London didnt get The Great One this timebut hey, WrestleManias still on the horizon.
