Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed midfielder Romeo Lavia has suffered a fresh injury setback which will send him back to the sidelines.

Lavia returned from a hamstring injury to play the final eight minutes of Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal before the international break, in what was just his third appearance of 2025 and his 13th across all competitions this season.

Unfortunately, Lavia has returned to the treatment table after picking up a problem in training ahead of Thursday's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

"He was doing better in terms of progress, but unfortunately one day ago he had again a small problem," Maresca revealed. "So we're going to see in the next hours."

Injuries have been a huge problem for Lavia ever since his move to Chelsea in 2023 for an initial 53m. The 21-year-old arrived unfit and suffered a whole host of injury issues which limited him to just one appearance and 32 minutes of Premier League action in his debut campaign.

Lavia started the opening game of the 2024/25 campaign before suffering a hamstring problem, and two further hamstring issues have limited him to just 596 minutes across all competitions this season.

There was, thankfully, some positive injury news from Maresca, who confirmed that Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke are back available alongside the returning Cole Palmer.

"Cole is back, he's okay, he's better, Noni is better, Nico is better, and yeah, they are all good," Maresca said.
