Saraya isnt holding back when it comes to why wrestlers are ditching WWE and signing with AEWand it all comes down to one thing: freedom.
On a recent episode of her Rulebreakers podcast, the former Divas Champion broke down the major difference between the two wrestling giants, and why talent are flocking to the AEW side of the ring. A lot of people go to AEW because theres more freedom compared to WWE. Its one of the reasons I made the switch, she said.
Its not exactly breaking news that WWE has always been tight about image controleverything from ring names to hairstyles and tattoos can be heavily scrutinized. In contrast, AEW has built its brand on letting performers be themselves. Since launching in 2019, the company has offered a more relaxed atmosphere and has quickly become a serious alternative for talent looking to take ownership of their careers.
Saraya also admitted WWEs tone has shifted in recent years, crediting the leadership change from Vince McMahon to Triple H. WWEs policies have already evolved under Paul [Triple H] Levesques leadership, she said, hinting that AEWs rise might be forcing WWE to loosen up just to keep up.
With talent now having real options and promotions pushing harder than ever, fans are the real winners. The competitive fire between WWE and AEW is raising the bar, and its starting to look like pro wrestling is on the verge of a new golden era.
