AEW President Tony Khan is standing by the violence that lit up the March 19 episode of Dynamite, calling the now-infamous Jon Moxley vs. Adam Copeland match a big success during his April 3, 2025 media call for AEW Dynasty.
The bout had fansand the internettalking for days after Moxley was dropped back-first onto a board covered in real steel spikes. The scene went viral almost immediately, with images of Moxleys blood-covered back spreading like wildfire.
During the AEW Dynasty press call, Tony Khan addressed the now-infamous moment after a question from Dominic DeAngelo. He praised both men for what they pulled off in the ring and revealed just how well the segment performed across social media platforms.
Khan said Moxley vs. Adam Copeland was a great match and a big success for the company. He noted that the clip has been watched millions of times across multiple platforms and referred to it as a hardcore wrestling moment.
He continued by emphasizing that it was a risk both Moxley and Copeland took, but ultimately, it really paid off.
Khan also made it clear that Moxley is doing fine following the brutal spot, noting he returned to the ring this week and will be wrestling again at AEW Dynasty on April 6.
This update follows previous reports stating that Warner Bros. Discovery had no issues with the match, despite its graphic nature. The scene, which featured Wheeler Yuta pulling spikes out of Moxleys back post-match, was as real as it looked.
Moxley went on to defeat Copeland and now has Swerve Strickland in his sights for Dynasty. But fans are still recovering from what might be one of the most violent visuals in AEW TV history.
