AEW has always strived to provide a product thats an alternative to WWE, which is why the company chooses to set itself apart with a lot of violence and bloodshed. While some fans feel the violence is overdone, it appears Tony Khan has no intention of stopping violent matches on AEW programming.
While speaking during theAEW Dynasty media call, Andrew Baydala asked if AEW will continue featuring violent matches, and Tony Khan confirmed that they will. He pointed out that AEW has delivered some of the best hardcore matches over the past six years and plans to keep that tradition alive.
The AEW President also mentioned that fans enjoy this style of wrestling, and he personally grew up watching it, making it an important part of AEWs identity as well.
This comes after Tony Khan defended the ultra-violent Street Fight between Jon Moxley and Adam Copeland, which featured Jon Moxley literally getting impaled by a spike as the spike was stuck on his back and had to be removed, something that fans hated. Tony Khan stated that the match was worth the risk and was a success.
AEW has consistently pushed the envelope when it comes to hardcore wrestling, and its clear that the company has no plans to tone down the intensity. Ultimately, Tony Khan decides what he wants to show the world, and thats unlikely to change anytime soon.
Do you think AEWs violent matches are a strength or a weakness? Are hardcore matches making AEW stand out, or is the company taking it too far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
