CM Punk is locked in for the main event of WrestleMania 41s Saturday show, and hes not shy about letting fansand his opponentsknow he still sees himself as top-tier.
In a recent interview with Sebastian Hackl of WWE Deutschland, Punk opened up about what it means to headline WrestleMania alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, and how he views their careers compared to his own.
Im excited, Punk said when asked about being in the WrestleMania spotlight again. WrestleMania is two nights now so I think its more opportunity for people to experience the rare air of a main event Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are two guys that I helped kind of get here to the main roster many, many moons ago.
But then Punk added a signature dose of bravado: Its gonna be special to show them that, you know, kind of daddys back thing. CM Punks back so youre still [right] here, Im still [up] here.
Punk didnt stop there. He also shared some personal thoughts about Cody Rhodes and the emotional reactions the American Nightmare gets from fans, especially overseas.
Im just an old softy now, you know? Punk admitted. Ive known Cody for 20 years I see Cody come out and his song and I watch him bounce back and forth from aisle to aisle. Greeting little boys, little girls, grown ass men, grandmas, grandpa they love him.
He compared the crowds love for Cody to legendary names like Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin, and said seeing that kind of adoration firsthand choked me up a little bit.
Punks honesty, mixed with a little edge, is why fans either love him or hate him. But theres no denying hes going into WrestleMania 41 with something to proveespecially against two men he once helped elevate.
