On Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic trained together in Monte Carlo ahead of the season's third Masters 1000 event. Carlos and Novak are seeded2nd and 3rd behind Alexander Zverev. They landed in different parts of the draw, and if theyface next week, it will be the title clash.
Carlos is competing in Monte Carlo only for the second time after skipping the first clay-court Masters 1000 event a couple of times due to injuries. The Spaniard will face Francisco Cerundolo or Fabio Fognini in the second round.
Alcaraz will seek a deep run in the Principality after losing the Indian Wells crown and suffering a heavy loss to David Goffinthe second round of the Miami Open. The Spaniard missed a chance to pressure Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev and fight for the ATP throne.
Carlos lost in the Australian Open quarter-final to Novak before conquering his first indoor ATP title in Rotterdam. The 21-year-old did not maintain that pace in Doha, Indian Wells and Miami, suffering three losses and remaining world no. 3.
Djokovic is 39-15 in Monte Carlo, lifting two trophies in 2013 and 2015 and defeating Rafael Nadal in both campaigns. Novak lost the ground at one of his home events between 2016 and 2023, embracing a mediocre 8-7 score and reaching only two quarter-finals.
The Serb changed that a year ago, advancing into his first Monte Carlo semi-final in nine years before falling to Casper Ruud. Djokovic reached his 60th Masters 1000 final in Miami last Sunday. Hewas bothered by a swollen eye during the final against Jakub Mensik.
