AEWs road to Dynasty just hit a detourcourtesy of Switchblade Jay White. While fans were told on TV that the Death Riders attacked White backstage, the real story is way more serious.
Jay White is dealing with a legitimate hand injury he suffered during his March 29 match against Kevin Knight. Its serious enough that surgery is now being considered, which has pulled White completely out of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. According to Fightful Select, this has already caused AEW to pivot creatively in a big way.
The original plan for Dynasty was Jay White vs. Will Ospreay, which now appears to be off the table. Kevin Knight has since stepped into Whites spot, altering the entire direction of the tournament.
White made an appearance on the April 5 episode of Collision to break his silence. With his hand clearly wrapped, he told Kevin Knight, Just remember you are only there because I cant be. He also addressed Will Ospreay, mocking his GOAT claims and promising a comeback. You have not taken me out. You have given me a gift you have given me time to prepare.
AEW sources say tournament outcomes are being kept close to the chest, and that creative plans were still being pitched as recently as last week. But one thing is clear: Whites absence threw a wrench into AEWs blueprint heading into Dynasty.
Jay Whites injury couldnt have come at a worse time, and its left AEW scrambling behind the scenes. With surgery still on the table, the Switchblades road to Dynasty may be closed for goodat least for now. AEWs reshuffled plans are proof that even the best-laid storylines can fall apart in a flash.
