AEW Dynasty 2025 ended with a massive backlash from fans, and the heat wasnt just for what went down in the ringit spilled all over social media, and Tony Khan was right in the crosshairs.
Jon Moxley retained his AEW World Championship in the main event against Swerve Strickland, but the finish didnt sit well with fans. After multiple run-ins and interferenceincluding the Young Bucks appearing out of nowhere to hit Swerve with a double V-TriggerMoxley pinned him for the win. The reaction in Philadelphia was loud, but the response online? Even louder.
What made things worse? Tony Khan didnt acknowledge the main event at all. Instead, his last post during the show hyped the triple threat match between Kenny Omega, Ricochet, and Speedball Mike Bailey. Khan tweeted:
Justified AEW! + This is awesome! chants for the AEW International Title 3 Way Championship Match here live in Philadelphia right now, @KingRicochet vs @SpeedballBailey vs AEW International Champion @KennyOmegamanX! Thank you all watching #AEWDynasty live right NOW!
Fans hijacked that tweets replies to vent their frustration over the Swerve-Mox finish:
One fan wrote bluntly, What the hell was that main event?
Another echoed the feeling and added, Having your show run into 12:30 is really unnecessary, especially with that bogus main event finish. If you want Mox to win, let him win clean.
A third fan called out Khans loyalty to Moxley, tweeting, Tony, why do you insist on keeping Moxley as the champion?
Another fan claimed they gave AEW a shot but left disappointed: I just got home from the PPV and left during the Adam Cole/Daniel Garcia match. I tried to give AEW a chance, but its just not working for me. Im glad I didnt stay until the end; I feel like Tony is turning AEW into WCW 2.0. While Im not a fan, I really dont want to see AEW fail, and it seems like its heading in that direction.
Some responses got even more direct. One fan simply wrote, F** you.* Another added, Worst booker ever.
Someone else went for the jugular with, That ending was booker malpractice.
One fan tweeted a plea: Read the fing room Tony. Youve ruined the feeling of AEW. Its fing horrible.
Another pointed out the irony, replying to Khans tweet with: Notice how those AEW! chants didnt happen during or after tonights main event?
And in one of the most cutting responses, a fan wrote, Im starting to think I owe CM Punk an apology after what I just saw. WOWthats how you reward Swerve after all his hard work?
Finally, a fan summed up the night with: Tony Khan maybe is the worst booker alive, tbh.
The online backlash shows just how divisive the decision to keep the belt on Moxley has become. Swerve Strickland left it all in the ringand even after the match, when the cameras stopped rolling, he grabbed the mic and shouted: F** Booker T,* continuing their real-life feud.
But the crowd, and fans online, were more concerned with the booking. AEW Dynasty may have delivered in ring quality, but the ending is what fans are taking homeand theyre not happy.
