Cody Rhodes has been the Undisputed WWE Champion for a year now and a lot of it has to do with the fact that his promo game has been on point. In fact, Rhodes has admitted that everything he says is his own words in his promos.
While speaking on Pardon My Take, Cody Rhodes talked about how he doesnt play a character in wrestling, hes just being himself. Hes thankful that fans have accepted him, but he still sometimes worries that a crowd might not cheer for him, especially in places like Barclays Center or Chicago, which are known to be tough on wrestlers. But when he gets there, the fans usually support him.
The American Nightmare thinks part of the reason people connect with him is because of his family, especially the love they had for his dad. Hes also shared his full journey with the fans since coming back to WWE.
Everything he says and does in the ring is real, its how he truly feels. He doesnt read from a script or pretend to be someone else. Maybe that honesty is why people like him. Even so, hes still surprised every night by how much support he gets.
With that said, Rhodes also revealed that John Cena doesnt believe he is authentic enough as a character. Regardless, people connect with him because hes honest, easy to relate to, and doesnt pretend to be someone hes not. In a world full of scripted promos and fake characters, Cody Rhodes shows fans what real storytelling is all about.
