While many fans assumed their promo segment on the April 4 episode of SmackDown might have thrown the match into chaos, thats not the case. According to Fightful Select, WWE hasnt changed creative direction at all. One source made it clear: The creative direction hasnt changed in that regard.
Charlotte mocking Strattons voice and Stratton clapping back with the now-infamous 0-3 marriage dig wasnt part of the scriptbut even with all that drama, WWE is sticking to the plan. In fact, the whole idea of pairing Flair and Stratton up for WrestleMania was reportedly mapped out before Charlotte even returned to the ring.
The match is still expected to go down on Night 1 of WrestleMania 41, and despite the fireworks during that off-the-rails promo, theres no internal concern that things will get messy between the ropes. As for whos winning? Nobody backstage is spilling. One source told Fightful that talent arent typically told the winner/loser result until the day of the show.
Even with WWE scrubbing the segments most personal jabs from digital platforms and producers calling it a wreck backstage, it appears WWE is hoping the real-life tension fuels interest rather than derails the story.
