Jeff Cobb might be WWE-boundand the timing has fans raising eyebrows.
On April 14, New Japan Pro-Wrestling officially confirmed that Cobb, a powerhouse and current member of the United Empire, is leaving the company at his own request. His final NJPW appearance will take place on April 19 at Korakuen Hall, where hes set to face Hiroshi Tanahashi in a singles match.
But heres where it gets interesting. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Cobbs NJPW exit wasnt just randomit may have been accelerated to make room for a WWE debut as soon as this weekend.
My presumption is WWE wanted him for Sunday or Monday, Meltzer revealed, referring to WrestleMania weekend or the Raw that follows.
While nothing is official yet, the speculation is only growing stronger, especially given that Randy Orton is currently without an opponent for WrestleMania 41 Night Two after Kevin Owens was sidelined due to injury. Meltzer didnt confirm anything directly, but fans are putting the pieces togetherand Cobb showing up to go toe-to-toe with Orton isnt sounding too far-fetched right now.
Cobb recently captured the IWGP Tag Team Titles alongside Callum Newman on April 5, but with his departure now set, NJPW will vacate the titles. That move only adds more fuel to the theory that WWE has something locked in for Cobbpossibly something big.
The former Olympian is no stranger to international acclaim, with stints in ROH, NJPW, and Lucha Underground under his belt. A WWE debut would mark a major leapand possibly give the company the kind of no-nonsense bruiser it loves to feature on its biggest stage.
