The NJPW STRONG Womens Championship is ready to be defended in a three way match at Resurgence on May 9. The champion, Mercedes Mone, will defend against both AZM and Mina Shirakawa. Mone is approaching 300 days as champion, and this will be her fifth title defense of this belt.

Mone last defended the title in a Title for Title match against Shirakawa. This is where Mone also won the Rev Pro Undisputed British Womens Championship. As for AZM, she last faced Mone when Mone held the IWGP Womens Championship in a match that also included Hazuki.

To earn this title opportunity, AZM and Shirakawa had a number one contender match at NJPWs Windy City Riot last week. The match ended in a double count out which made both women move on to face Mone.
