Jeff Cobb is addressing the WWE speculation swirling around himbut instead of confirming anything, he fired off a sarcastic tweet that left fans laughing and confused all at once.
On April 15, just one day after New Japan Pro-Wrestling confirmed Cobb was leaving the company, the former Olympian jumped on Twitter to poke fun at all the online talk. Wow! Overwhelmed by the messages and support, and hate , its very much appreciated! he wrote. So I just wanted to clear up any rumors and innuendos. Yes, it is in fact 100% true that the Monster Matanza Cueto, from Lucha Underground fame, was in FACT watching my matches from his cell and stealing them to use on the El Rey Network.
He didnt stop there. Cobb added, But dont worry, I have contacted a wonderful lawyer in @StephenPNew to rectify the situation! Thank you for the support in these trying times!
While it was clearly a joke, the timing of the tweet has people reading between the lines. Just days earlier, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Cobbs exit from NJPW may have been sped up to allow a WWE debutpossibly as soon as WrestleMania weekend or Monday Night Raw. Meltzer said, My presumption is WWE wanted him for Sunday or Monday, which would explain why Cobb is finishing up with NJPW on April 19 against Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Cobb and Callum Newman just won the IWGP Tag Team Titles on April 5, but with Cobb now leaving, NJPW is vacating the beltsanother sign something major is in play. And with Randy Orton left without an opponent for WrestleMania 41 Night Two, fans have been speculating Cobb could be the surprise answer.
Whether or not Cobb shows up in WWE this weekend, one thing is clearhes keeping the internet talking, even if its through Lucha Underground jokes.
