The April 18th edition of Friday Night SmackDown featured a solid promo war between Cody Rhodes and John Cena, but it saw Rhodes actually getting booed. With that in mind, WWEs backstage reaction to getting booed has been revealed.
According to Fightful Select, WWE was aware that Cody Rhodes could be booed at SmackDown, and they anticipated it could happen at any time over the last three years. Sources mentioned that WWE is confident they can handle any crowd reaction that comes their way.
During the promo segment, Cody Rhodes came out first and got the crowd hyped, but before he could speak, John Cenas music hit. Cena entered to a mix of cheers and boos. He told Cody Rhodes to shut your mouth, kid, and criticized other wrestlers for always coming back for one more match, claiming they were insecure and that he didnt need the fans. Cena said he was there to take the WWE Title from Cody Rhodes.
Cena also mentioned how Cody Rhodes had finished his story at WrestleMania 40, but he predicted Cody would lose at WrestleMania 41 because he cared too much about the fans. Cena also brought up how Cody had rejected The Rocks offer, saying that was when he realized Cody didnt stand a chance.
Cody Rhodes fired back, calling Cena overrated and mocking his appearance. He also mentioned Cenas controversial Oscars stunt and the fact that Cena couldnt wrestle in 2025. The crowd got behind Cody Rhodes, chanting his name, as Rhodes managed to get the fans back on his side.
The former Leader of Cenation tried to hit an Attitude Adjustment, but Cody Rhodes countered with a Crossroads, ending the segment with him posing with the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Nevertheless, Cody Rhodes will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 Sunday and it remains to be seen whether Rhodes will be able to retain the title in the end, as the odds are certainly stacked against him.
