Eric Bischoff thought WrestleMania 41 would be a worldwide smashbut hes admitting the numbers caught him off guard.
On a new episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff reacted to the fact that WrestleMania 41 didnt crack Netflixs global Top 10 rankings after its international broadcast. With WWEs massive $5 billion, 10-year streaming deal with Netflix kicking off this year, the expectation was that the biggest show of the year would pull serious numbers across the globe.
I am surprised. I was excited to see what WrestleMania was gonna do, and when that number came in, yeah, I was surprised it landed where it did, Bischoff admitted. He went on to explain why he thought the international audience would have carried the event harder: While its not the Super Bowl necessarily in terms of public interest in the United States, its probably close in some ways. But outside of the United States? Not so much.
WrestleMania 41 was packed with major matchesSeth Rollins beat CM Punk and Roman Reigns in the Night One main event, while John Cena captured a record-breaking 17th world title by defeating Cody Rhodes on Night Two. But even with those headline moments, the international bump just didnt hit the way Bischoff thought it would.
I didnt think Netflix was gonna have a big impact on the domestic audience because the domestic audience has been able to get and stream WrestleMania for quite some time now on Peacock, Bischoff added. But I really thought that the international bump would have been much more significant than it is.
Bischoff didnt stop therehe also questioned The Rocks explanation for not appearing at either night of WrestleMania 41, teasing even more drama in the fallout of the show.
