Konnan is making movesand hes doing it with WWE now backing him.
On the latest episode of K100, Konnan finally addressed the massive WWE acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and didnt mince words about his role moving forward. I am going to be on their creative team, Konnan said flat out, putting any rumors to rest.
When asked who hell be answering to, Konnan didnt hesitate to name-drop some major players. Probably Dorian, Hunter, and HBK, he said, referencing Dorian Roldn Pea, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels. That means AAAs future will be a mix of Mexican wrestling leadership and WWEs creative muscle.
Konnan also shut down critics who claimed AAA was in trouble before the sale. Our problem in AAA isnt our talent. Its not our booking. Its that we didnt have any money, he explained. To hammer it home, he pointed out the massive budget gap between AAA and WWE: If you (AAA) put all our TVs together for one year, its not as much as they (WWE) spend on one TV in the United States.
Now that AAA has serious funding behind it, Konnan couldnt hide his excitement. Were working with WWE. It doesnt get any better than that, and so our show will look a lot better, and were going to be able to work with their talent, and now with money, youll see what we can fu**ing do.
Konnan gave major credit to Dorian Roldn for pushing the deal through. The reason they sold the company is because Dorian Roldan put his ego to the side, and he understood we could never grow if we didnt have help and capital, and now we have it, Konnan said. He made it clear this wasnt a desperation move, adding, The last two years, all of our TVs have been from 85% to full.
Looking ahead, Konnan also pointed out a major challenge for Mexican wrestlers breaking into WWEs bigger ecosystem. I think the biggest thing for Mexican talent is going to be learning the language, he said, stressing the importance of English proficiency for success at the next level.
