The Rock just delivered major news for fans waiting on his next big move outside the wrestling world.
On April 28, 2025, The Rock took to Instagram to announce that the trailer for The Smashing Machine will officially drop tomorrow, April 29. Along with the announcement, he shared a poster from the film, featuring him as MMA legend Mark Kerr. His caption simply read, Benny Safdies THE SMASHING MACHINE. Trailer tomorrow.
The Smashing Machine tells the story of Mark Kerr, a brutal force in the early days of MMA who struggled with addiction behind the scenes. The Rock first revealed he would portray Kerr back in 2019, but production faced heavy delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project, produced by The Rocks Seven Bucks Productions and directed by Benny Safdie, recently wrapped filming in Japan.
Emily Blunt, who worked with The Rock on Disneys Jungle Cruise, plays Kerrs wife, Dawn Staples. Safdie, known for Uncut Gems, not only directed but also wrote the screenplay for the gritty biopic.
With the trailer dropping tomorrow, fans are about to get their first real glimpse of The Rocks intense transformation into Mark Kerr and the early reactions could set the tone for one of the biggest movie roles of his career.
