Theres been a lot of talk about why Dwayne The Rock Johnson didnt physically get involved at WrestleMania 41and now, its clear one big theory doesnt hold up.
During his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, The Rock addressed why he stayed out of the WrestleMania 41 finish, even though he was backstage and could have easily inserted himself. We can insert the Final Boss into this finish, but why get involved in that finish when that should just be focused on John, a 17-time champion, and what 2025 looks like. That is the anchoring storyline, he explained. He also made it clear that after Elimination Chamber, he made the call to step back, telling Cody Rhodes and John Cena, The Final Boss work is done.
The Rock said he caught WrestleMania from his couch at home, not from behind the curtain, because he wanted to experience it like a fan. I just wanted to watch like a fan, he said. He praised John Cenas heel turn, calling it the north star and said Cena will have this insane run as a heel. According to Rock, Cenas new role came after a talk between Triple H and Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel.
However, Kevin Nash recently dropped a different theory on Kliq This, claiming The Rock didnt participate because he was busy filming a Martin Scorsese movie. Rock couldnt show up because Rock was filming a f*cking Scorsese film, Nash said. The last time Rock fucking showed up, right before Hercules, he tore his fucking bone off his pelvis and cost production $10 million. No, Rock can say whatever he wants, I didnt want to fuck up Cenas moment, he didnt have the option.
Problem is, that story doesnt add up. The Scorsese project Nash mentioned isnt even filming yet. Production isnt scheduled to start until early 2026, which is almost a full year away. So, The Rocks explanation for sitting out WrestleMania standsand it looks like theres no Hollywood conspiracy forcing him to stay off TV.
The Rock made it clear he stepped aside by choice, not because he was locked into another project. As he put it, the focus needed to stay on John Cena and Cody Rhodes as WWE sets the stage for 2025. This has always been the plan, dating back to last November.
With The Rocks side of the story cleared up, it sounds like theres still plenty of room for him to step back into the ring when the time is right.
Do you think The Rock made the right call by staying out of Wrestle Mania 41? Or would you have rather seen The Final Boss crash the party? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
