Pro wrestling icon Meiko Satomura has officially closed the book on her in-ring career after nearly 30 years in the business. The Japanese legend had previously announced her intention to retire in 2025, and on April 29, it became official as she wrestled her final matches inside Tokyos Korakuen Hall.
Satomura first teamed with Minami to defeat Aja Kong and Chihiro Hashimoto in her scheduled farewell bout. Before the match began, Kenta Kobashi presented Satomura with a bouquet of flowers, and her parents stood by her side in a deeply emotional moment. But that wasnt the end.
In a surprise twist after the bout, longtime rival Aja Kong took the mic and requested to team up with Satomura one last time. Despite years of battles between them, Satomura agreed. The two legends then faced off against Chihiro Hashimoto, Senka Akatsuki, Takumi Iroha, YUNA, and Mika Iwata in a special five-minute exhibition match that ended in a drawofficially marking the final bell for Satomuras legendary career.
Her last WWE match took place on July 27, 2024, during the WWE Summer SuperShow Tour in Japan. That night, she faced WWE Womens Champion Bayley at Tokyos Ryogoku Kokugikan and came up short, ending her WWE run with a match many viewed as a passing of the torch.
Meiko Satomura debuted in April 1995 with GAEA Japan and quickly earned respect for her precision, resilience, and presence in the ring. She became a staple of the Japanese wrestling scene and worked with top international promotions including Sendai Girls, WCW, and eventually WWE. In 2021, Satomura captured the NXT UK Womens Championship and reigned with authority, defending it across Europe before the brand was absorbed into NXT.
Beyond championships, Satomuras impact was even greater backstage. She mentored generations of wrestlers, from Japan to the U.S. and Europe. Her influence could be felt in the styles of many of todays top stars. Known as The Final Boss, she lived up to the name, often serving as the last, toughest opponent for many rising talents.
Now, after nearly three decades of groundbreaking work inside the ring and behind the scenes, Meiko Satomura can finally rest. She gave everything to professional wrestling and shaped it across continents. From GAEA to WWE and back to Japan, her legacy is cemented.
