Carlo Ancelotti's proposed move to become the next Brazil national team manager has collapsed, numerous reports have claimed.

Ancelotti is expected to leave his role as Real Madrid manager this summer after a disappointing campaign which is likely to end without silverware, and it was widely reported that he had agreed a deal to take over the Selecao as early as the end of May.

A contract was agreed between Ancelotti and the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) and the Italian flew into London on Tuesday for what was expected to be a final meeting to put pen to paper, but multiple sources state Ancelotti instead turned the approach down.

According to Relevo, the collapse in negotiations centres around the date of his departure from Madrid. Brazil wanted Ancelotti to start work in June, before the Club World Cup starts, and while that detail was agreed with the manager, Madrid ultimately declined to release their boss.

Ancelotti is under contract until 2026 and Madrid are said to have decided that, should he choose to walk away from his deal in Spain to agree terms with another team, he would have to forfeit the remaining wages owed to him, believed to be around 11m (9.4m).

Refusing to give up those earnings, Ancelotti ultimately informed the CBF that he could not take the job.

It is stressed that Madrid are entirely happy to release Ancelotti before the Club World Cup, with former boss Santiago Solari lined up to lead the team in an interim capacity, but they will not pay their current manager to leave early and join another team.

Brazil are now expected to turn to Al Hilal manager Jorge Jesus, and the merry-go-round has seen Ancelotti offered an annual salary of 50m (42.5m) to replace Jesus in Saudi Arabia - an offer which he is thought to be taking seriously.

As Ancelotti still has one more year on his contract with Madrid, an agreement must be reached between all parties for that deal to end early.
